Be Careful and Alert”: India’s Warning to Its Citizens in Canada

India has issued a warning to its citizens living in Canada, asking them to be careful and alert due to the increasing anti-India activities, hate crimes and violence in Canada. The warning also says that Indian diplomats and sections of the Indian community who oppose the anti-India agenda have been specially targeted by threats. The warning comes at a time when India and Canada are having a dispute over the latter’s interference in India’s internal matters, especially on the issue of farmers’ protests. India has expressed its displeasure over the remarks made by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other Canadian leaders on the issue, saying that they are unwarranted and unacceptable. The warning also advises Indian nationals to avoid travelling to regions and potential venues in Canada that have witnessed such incidents, and to report any such incidents to the local authorities and the Indian High Commission in Ottawa.
